What are thread lifts?

Thread lifts are a popular alternative to a surgical face lift, able to rejuvenate and smooth the skin on your face without invasive incisions or long recovery times. It is an ideal treatment for patients in their mid-thirties to fifties with mild to moderate sagging, and creates a gentle, youthful and natural-looking result.

Special threads or cones, made from the same material as surgical sutures, are used in targeted points of your face to raise your skin and stimulate ongoing collagen and elastin production. This makes your skin look and feel firmer, with a more defined jawline and smoother look.

What does thread lift treatment involve?

image

Consultation

During your initial consultation, we discuss the procedure in detail with you. We ask you about your ideal results from the treatment and let you know what to expect. We also make sure you are suitable for a thread lift, and help you make an informed decision.

image

Preparation

To begin your treatment, we plan the specific points on your face for the threads to be inserted. We clean your face and apply an anaesthetic cream to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout.

image

Thread lift

We place a series of fine needles and threads into your facial tissue to give the best skin tightening for you. Once each thread has been applied, we reshape and mould it by hand to achieve the desired effect. The non-inserted ends of the sutures are then cut off and we give you some aftercare advice.

Types of thread lifts at Mouth Matters

PDO thread lift
This stimulates type 3 collagen and elastin production. The PDO threads consist of one (monofilament) or two twisted solid fibre mono spiral, double spiral and hooks which dissolve in the tissue after approximately six to eight months.

Honey Derma PDO Threads
These stimulate the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, which are vital for creating youthful-looking skin. The treatment also relaxes the muscles and tendons that may be pulling down your skin.

Silhouette Soft®
This uses polylactic acid surgical strands which produce a gradual and naturally regenerating effect. The treatment stimulates ongoing type 1 (mature) collagen production to increase volume and slow the effects of ageing.

5-point lift
During this treatment, we insert five PDO threads on each side of your face to refine your jawline, lift your cheeks, tighten your neck, and reduce the lines around your eyes, nose and mouth.

Frequently asked questions

How does a thread lift work?

Thread lifts raise sagging facial skin, smooth the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin for long-lasting results. We insert special threads into pre-planned areas of your face either just below the surface of your skin or within a deeper layer, depending on the results we want to achieve.

When will I see results after a thread lift?

You will be able to see visible changes to your appearance immediately after your thread lift treatment. Your results will improve over time. New collagen production starts to become visible after six weeks, and it can take 8-12 weeks to really appreciate the full effect of your thread lift.

How long will my results last?

The results from your thread lift can last for approximately 1-2 years.

What should I do immediately following my treatment?

Your aftercare instructions will depend on the type of thread lift you have. We will give you detailed information and recommendations to follow after your treatment to help you achieve the best results with minimal downtime.

What is a PDO thread lift?

With a PDO thread lift, we introduce PDO threads along carefully targeted points of your face. PDO is a strong synthetic fibre consisting of one (monofilament) or two twisted solid fibre (mono spiral, double spiral hooks) threads, which dissolve in your skin tissue in approximately six to eight months. PDO has been used extensively for several decades in surgical implants and sutures. It causes a very mild reaction during absorption and minimal acute inflammatory reaction.

Which areas can be treated with a thread lift?

Thread lifts can be used to improve the appearance of a number of areas on your face and body. These include:

  • Lifting and redefining the lower face and jawline
  • Minimising the depth of marionette lines (from the corners of the mouth to your chin)
  • Adding definition to the mid-face and cheek areas
  • Improving the appearance of a deep nasolabial fold
  • Achieving an eyebrow lift
  • Tightening the under-eye area
  • Improving crow’s feet and smoker’s lines
  • Firming up a double chin
  • Rejuvenating the skin
  • Narrowing the pores
  • Increasing the skin volume
  • Minimising skin furrows on the neck and cleavage
  • Tightening loose skin on the belly, buttocks, arms, and legs
What is a Silhouette Soft thread lift?

A Silhouette Soft Thread Lift differs from other thread lifts treatments because we introduce tiny sutures and bidirectional resorbable cones into your skin to achieve both lifting and rejuvenation.

Each cone provides an anchorage point in your skin’s subcutaneous tissue where fresh collagen begins to grow in response to the presence of a foreign body. This creates solid support for your facial soft tissues, which continues long after the cones break down and dissolve.

Unlike other thread lifts, the presence of the cones and sutures stimulates your body to produce both Type 3 and Type 1 collagen – the latter is the strong and mature collagen found in the connective tissues of the human body, whereas Type 3 collagen tends to be more widely associated with trauma. The unique cone technology ensures that the sutures remain in place, preventing any risks of migration. It also compresses the tissue and lifts the skin for instant yet discreet results.
